How Local Governments Have Taken Advantage of Major Federal Programs

President Joe Biden’s two major funding bills — the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act — have allocated almost $1 trillion of new funds to improve U.S. economic competitiveness and address climate change. As with any major federal spending bill, a significant portion of that money is available for local governments to apply for through grants.
This report looks at where discussions of these funding programs showed up in local government meetings in 2022, providing insight into how local governments across the country are taking advantage of these funds.
For each program, we look at how many unique projects with specific funding requests were discussed in local government meetings, the total dollar amount requested by local governments, and the states or communities with the highest dollar amount requested.
