Wendy’s Day — FiscalNote’s Day of Service

FiscalNote continues to memorialize former chief of staff Wendy Martinez with its annual day of service. All employees and any others participating are asked to recognize their activity – whether they be acts of kindness, donations, or simply getting out and moving – with #WendysDay2020 on social media.

FiscalNote Memorializes former Chief of Staff Wendy Martinez with Annual Day of Service

Our annual day of service – since named Wendy’s Day – will be held in honor of our former chief of staff Wendy Martinez for the second year this Friday, August 21, 2020.

Wendy was the victim of a senseless and random act of violence while jogging in Washington, D.C. and passed away September 18, 2018. While working as our chief of staff, Wendy’s voice was not just vibrant within the FiscalNote family, but even more so in her extended community. She was incredibly passionate in her embodiment of FiscalNote’s values and commitment to service.

In addition to the number of different ways we serve our greater community throughout the year, this specific day of service in her honor is typically celebrated by providing in-person volunteer support to our many community partners, including Capital Area Food Bank, Friendicoes, Food Bank for New York City, A Wider Circle, Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, DC Central Kitchen, and Calvary Women’s Services

FiscalNote team celebrating Wendy’s Day 2019 in serving nonprofit partners across the globe

FiscalNote team members celebrated Wendy’s Day 2019 in serving nonprofit partners across the globe.

While our observance of Wendy’s Day will undoubtedly look different this year due to the ongoing global pandemic, we continue to honor Wendy and this annual tradition -- a testament to our ongoing pledge to create community impact through service -- by asking our employees to take time out of their day to perform intentional acts of kindness, make donations to our community partners, or simply get moving (as Wendy was an avid runner and champion of Girls on the Run).

Many FiscalNote employees will share their acts of service over social media with #WendysDay2020 and we encourage anyone else interested in memorializing Wendy this way to participate with that hashtag as well.

If you wish to make a donation in Wendy’s honor, we recommend choosing from this list of FiscalNote’s community partners and include #WendysDay2020 within the donation memo.

About The Wendy Martinez Legacy Project

Wendy’s friends and family established The Wendy Martinez Legacy Project in the wake of this tragedy. Its mission is to provide strategic grants and support projects that encourage women’s empowerment through running, technology, entrepreneurship and leadership -- all areas Wendy so passionately cared about.

On August 13, The Wendy Martinez Legacy Project announced that it had tripled its grant giving for 2020 while broadening the list of organizations it supports. Read the announcement here
