Andrew Clevenger, a defense reporter for CQ Roll Call, has won the Commentary award from the Military Reporters & Editors Association (MRE) for his 2019 columns in CQ Magazine.
This is the second year in a row that Andrew has been recognized by MRE in this category. He has developed a strong narrative voice in the columns, one that enables him to distill complex Pentagon issues into a digestible and enjoyable 800 words.
Andrew "builds his arguments with great writing, yes, but their strength is based on data, documents and deep sourcing. He also is fearless in holding the powerful accountable," MRE says in its news release.
"I couldn't agree more with the judges from the Medill School of Journalism," said Editor-in-Chief, Catalina Camia. "The goal with the CQ Magazine columns is to provide reported analysis and insight as we showcase the writer's expertise, and Andrew's 2019 work is a fine example of what we strive to do."
The Military Reporters & Editors Association is the membership group for working journalists who regularly cover the U.S. military at home and abroad.
