Curtis Recognized for Online Editorial/Opinion Writing in Roll Call
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Wednesday, May 18, 2022 – FiscalNote, a leading technology provider of global policy and market intelligence, today saluted Roll Call’s Mary C. Curtis for being honored as a finalist for the Society of Professional Journalists' Washington, D.C. Pro Chapter’s annual Dateline Awards.
Curtis was recognized for her work in the “Online Editorial/Opinion Writing” category of the awards for her incisive, perceptive, and thought-provoking columns in Roll Call, where she is also the host of the “Equal Time” podcast.
“Mary's columns are the velvet hammer of journalism: deftly written and meticulously reported commentary that hits hard and breaks through the noise and clutter,” said Jason Dick, Editor-in-Chief for CQ and Roll Call. “She is a great colleague who consistently delivers one of the tenets of our profession: to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. Mary helps make sense of a complicated world, and her voice is an essential part of our newsroom."
Curtis is a repeat awardee in the honors, having won the Dateline Award for her writing in June 2021. Her numerous other honors include: two Clarion Awards from the Association for Women in Communications; awards from the National Headliners and the Society of Professional Journalists; three first-place awards from the National Association of Black Journalists; and, the Thomas Wolfe Award.
Each year, the D.C. Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists honors excellence in journalism. The Washington, D.C. Chapter’s Dateline Awards recognizes print, digital, and broadcast journalists in the greater D.C. metropolitan area, including Northern Virginia and Maryland. Journalists can submit their work in seven divisions. Within each division there are more than 18 categories - from breaking news to features, commentary, photography, and design.
