FiscalNote Announces Acquisition of Curate

Madison, WI-based technology company to increase access to municipal civic intelligence information

WASHINGTON, DC – August 31, 2021 – FiscalNote, a leading technology provider of global policy and market intelligence, announces its acquisition of Madison, WI-based-Curate Solutions, a technology company that provides municipal civic intelligence and monitoring services.

Founded in 2016 by Taralinda and Dale Willis, Curate has developed technology that tracks city and county committee meeting minutes and agendas from the more than 12,000 municipalities across the United States with 2,000 people or more. On a weekly basis, the company ingests 400 to 500 thousand documents from these local governing and regulatory bodies.

“As we spend more time thinking about how we serve the increasingly regulated sectors of the future, it has become obvious that a lot of that regulatory activity is happening at local levels of government,” said FiscalNote founder and CEO, Tim Hwang. “Curate has done a tremendous job building mission-critical technology to help organizations more quickly and effectively access this vital municipal information, and I’m very excited to join forces to better serve our clients’ legislative and regulatory data needs spanning everything from small domestic municipalities to countries around the world.”

As organizations become both more localized and more global at the same time, they increasingly need to quickly understand the impact of government activity on their operations. Due to the disparate nature of that data and information, technology solutions like Curate’s provide clients the ability to develop an in-depth view of the wide ranging and rapidly evolving municipal policy landscape.

“Municipalities in the US move fast, and have a lot of power – I’m proud of our team and their work to leverage technology to capture crucial information of so many local communities across the country and make it easily available,” said Taralinda Wills, who serves as Curate’s CEO. “We look forward to continuing to advance our critical work at the local level as we join FiscalNote’s mission in connecting the people and organizations of the world to their governments.”

This announcement further amplifies FiscalNote’s push to expand both the breadth and depth of the data and content it provides clients, as well as key technological capabilities. Since the beginning of the year, acquisitions of Oxford Analytica, Predata, and Timebase have greatly expanded the data and intelligence that FiscalNote delivers to its customers, while acquisitions of Fireside, Board.org, and Equilibrium have expanded the breadth of services and technology it offers.
